Dell Casts Eyes On Wearable Computers Next

Dell used to be pretty big when it came to selling computers, and while that remains as one of their core bread and butter market segments, the company did dip their fingers into the world of portable devices before without much success, unfortunately. Not too shy the second time around, Dell threw their lot behind Microsoft’s Windows RT operating system by rolling out Windows RT-powered tablets, and according to a Dell executive in a recent interview, Dell has managed to sell ‘hundreds of thousands’ of the Dell Latitude 10 and the Dell XPS 10.

Sam Burd, Dell’s global vice-president of personal computing, said, “It’s going to take some time, and the jury is still out. IDC’s numbers says that Windows 8 on tablets is still far smaller than the iPad, but there are successes. Maybe in a few years when we get to Windows 8 tablets being a third or 40% of tablet volume we can feel it’s happening. Tablets are definitely an important piece of the computing business.” Other than that, Burd had an interesting take on the future from Dell, touting that the company is exploring the possibility of a wearable computing device, which would automatically bring ideas of the iWatch to your mind.
