BlackBerry released its BlackBerry Z10 earlier this year across a number of U.S. retailers with many of them offering subsidized prices of $199 for the company’s first BlackBerry 10 device. It’s only been a few months since the device was made available to the public, and we’re already hearing reports the device has started to receive some deep discounts across a number of carriers and retailers.
According to the WSJ, the BlackBerry Z10 is now selling on AT&T and Verizon Wireless for a subsidized price of $99, with Amazon going even further with its discount as they are selling the Z10 for $49. BlackBerry defended the price cuts telling the WSJ “now is the right time to adjust the price. It’s part of life cycle management to tier the pricing for current devices to make room for the next ones.”
If previous leaks are believed to be true, we could be hearing about BlackBerry’s “next” BlackBerry device fairly soon as we’ve seen numerous leaks of the BlackBerry A10, which just recently was caught in the wild in a recently published video. If the BlackBerry A10 is one of the reasons why the Z10 received a deep discount, then we can see why BlackBerry would choose now to do so.
