Apple Reportedly Talking To LG, Sharp, AU Optronics For iTV Display Panels

We’ve heard rumors of the Apple iTV before, a supposed HDTV that will be made by Apple in the Cupertino company’s attempts to break into the living rooms of consumers, possibly to challenge how TV is normally viewed. The rumors of the device came about in a quote from the Steve Jobs biography by Walter Isaacson, and while we have yet to see evidence of the device that proves its existence, a new rumor has suggested that Apple is currently talking to display suppliers about the display panels in which they would use for their alleged iTV device.

Apparently Apple is still testing the technology they plan to use for their iTV product, and at the moment they are in talks with several companies, such as LG, Sharp, and AU Optronics, about display panels which could be used for a “high-end 4K “Ultra HD” television”. The orders have yet to be finalized and we guess we’re not surprised that Apple has turned to these suppliers since Apple has a working relationship with all of them as the companies supply components for Apple’s iOS devices. Assuming this rumor is true, it looks like the rumored iTV will not be seeing a 2013 launch, and a 2014 launch will probably be the earliest, but take it with a grain of salt for now.
