Yahoo To Reset IDs Inactive Since At Least 12 Months

Yahoo announced today that it will begin resetting IDs that have been inactive for at least one year from 15th July. This will allow it to free up many IDs that are no longer being used. Yahoo says that by doing this, it provides an opportunity for their existing as well as new users to “to sign up for the Yahoo! ID they’ve always wanted.” For example if your name is John Doe and john.doe@yahoo.com has been inactive for at least one year, you will be able to make a claim for this ID, provided that somebody else doesn’t beat you to it.

Come July, users will be able to sign up for the ID they want. In mid-August they’ll find out which of the IDs they claimed have been given to them. A Yahoo ID actually serves as login credentials for a variety of the company’s services, its not just a Yahoo email address. Those who have not used their IDs for more than one year but don’t want to lose them, should sign in to any Yahoo service before 15th July.
