Ever since Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One, the company has been answering more questions than they probably expected to as we already know the console’s controversial stand on used games as well as its requirement of a regular connection to the Internet. But one gray area that is being revealed is the Xbox One’s region locking, which aren’t just in reference to a game’s expected region locking, but the console itself, too.
On Microsoft’s Xbox.com website, disclaimers saying “Requires account on Xbox Live in an Xbox One-supported Xbox Live country” has raised a serious question regarding taking an Xbox One to an “unsupported” country, which a number of Twitter users have turned their questions to Microsoft’s Xbox Support Twitter accounts to try to find out what exactly this means for traveling gamers.
The responses from the Xbox Support Twitter account aren’t promising as they suggest those who travel a lot with their Xbox One will “be able to play when you return home” if you happen to travel to an unsupported region. As for those who choose to import the Xbox One in an unsupported region, Microsoft suggests that person “wait until the console is available in their region” as “unsupported countries would not have the full experience.”
