Google is finally rolling out the brand new Gmail for Android app, bringing the version number up to 4.5. The improvements and enhancements made in this app were talked about at length a week before, because quite a lot of information about it had already been leaked. It was rumored that the new update will be released on Wednesday, turns out that it has been released a full day ahead of expectations. Details about the new navigation drawer were actually leaked at I/O 2013.
Labels for the emails are now shown in containers inside the inbox itself. The new slide-out navigation drawer comes with a top-only action bar. Users can set up label notifications, pull to refresh email and empty trash with just one tap. Gmail for Android also lets users manage multiple accounts. Google is conducting a staged roll out of this app. What this means is that it could take quite a few days before the app becomes available for all markets. For some, it might be readily available from Google Play Store. Head on over there to download the new Gmail for Android app.
