Lightning Electric Motorcycle Comes Up Tops Against Gas-Powered Bikes
You could more or less say that there is a rather fierce debate that is going on which concerns electric powered vehicles and gas-powered ones. Of course, those that run on gas have a far longer range for the most part, in addition to being easy to refill since charging up your electric ride is not too common a sight just yet. Still, there was an interesting contest between Lightning Motorcycles against a gas-powered ride, where the “battleground” of choice was the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, which so happens to boast a whopping 156 turns throughout its 12.42 miles (19.99 km) course, sporting elevation changes that range from 4,720 ft (1,440 m) to 14,110 ft (4,300 m), resulting in it being one of the most grueling races in the world where humans and machines are concerned.
Gas-powered vehicles tend to suffer more here since the air has less oxygen at higher altitudes, so this has made electric cars and motorcycles pick up the popularity stake at this event recently. In fact, this year marks the momentous occasion when an electric bike laid the smack down on a gas-powered rival, as Carlin Dunne and Lightning Motorcycles completed their race in 10 minutes 0.694 seconds, which is approximately one third of a minute faster than a Ducati Multistrada 1200 S.
