On Tuesday Apple was awarded a new patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The patent is called System and method for simplified data transfer. In this patent Apple describes technology through which its future devices will be capable of transferring data automatically among themselves. This will be possible through near-field communication or NFC. Apple’s major rivals in the market already have NFC devices out, while patented technologies don’t always see the light of day, here’s to hoping that Apple will bring NFC to their future devices.
Despite mentioning NFC, the patent also says that the transfer of data may take place through a peer-to-peer connection. It is interesting to note that Apple has not limited this technology only to their mobile devices. The patent mentions that this technology may be supported by computers, Apple TV, a game controller and a remote. Despite all of the rumors that we have been hearing about new Apple products destined for a September release, we’ve not yet heard chatter about NFC support. Hopefully NFC support is a rabbit that Apple pulls out of its hat on launch day.
