Chinese OEMs Unwilling To Build Windows Phone Devices Due To Nokia’s Dominance [Report]

Have you ever wondered why there aren’t that many Windows Phone manufacturers compared to Android? One obvious reason would be how compared to Android, Windows Phone’s market share is only a fraction of Android’s, ultimately discouraging OEMs to license the platform. Secondly, and this is according to Digitimes, another reason why OEMs are a bit hesitant to adopt the Windows Phone platform is due to how much market share Nokia is currently controlling, which we guess could be said the same when looking at Android and how much Samsung is currently dominating there.

With Nokia supposedly taking more than 70% of Windows Phone sales, there really isn’t that much left of the pie for new OEMs to steal, not to mention Nokia’s close relationship with Microsoft has afforded the Finnish company some exclusives that other OEMs do not have access to. The report also goes on to claim that another reason that Chinese OEMs are unwilling to adopt Windows Phone is because Microsoft is reportedly refusing to lower the cost of licensing fees, and are unwilling to allow these OEMs to customize the software like they would have with Android.
