BlackBerry confirmed it would be bringing its BlackBerry 10 OS to its BlackBerry PlayBook back in early 2012 with executives pegging its release to take place some time later this year. BlackBerry PlayBook owners can just forget the whole idea of BlackBerry 10 hitting their tablet ever existed as BlackBerry’s CEO has just put the kibosh on the company’s previous plans.
BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins confirmed during today’s earnings report the cancellation of BlackBerry 10 on the BlackBerry PlayBook, which BlackBerry still continues to ship units out. The reason for the cancelation was due to Heins’ dissatisfaction with the level of the experience and was forced to make the “difficult decision” to put a stop to the project and shift resources back to BlackBerry’s smartphone products.
Considering just how confident BlackBerry seemed to have been in regards to BlackBerry 10 making its way to the PlayBook, we admit we’re completely caught by surprise to hear Heins has canceled the company’s plans to give the tablet the much needed boost it deserves. Hopefully the real reason behind this cancelation is because BlackBerry is developing a new PlayBook running on BlackBerry 10, but that’s only wishful thinking at this point.
