Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One during a global event last week which they detailed the next-generation console’s hardware, software and everything in between. With a new video game console comes a new controller, and according to a report, the Xbox One controller should last you somewhere between 7 – 10 years, if not longer.
According to Microsoft, the Xbox One controller has been undergoing tests for the past six months to determine how it will perform when it’s withstanding daily button mashing by its users. “Each button gets pressed over and over, between 4-5 times a second,” said accessories and hardware manager for Microsoft Bob Brown during an interview with Pocket-lint.
Microsoft’s tests have resulted in each Xbox One controller prototype tested being able to handle 3 million button presses before they stop functioning. Microsoft estimates its controller could withstand use of over 10 years, which means the Xbox One controller will most likely last as long as the console itself, that is, as long as you’re not a controller chucker.
