Winky Google Glass App Lets Users Take Photos By Winking

A couple of weeks ago we reported that some code had been uncovered in the MyGlass companion app which hinted at the user winking to take a photo with Google Glass. At moment, Glass has only been shipped out to a select few people who are called Explorers. One such explorer, Mike DiGiovanni, has created an app called Winky that lets Google Glass Explorers take photos by simply winking. The video of Winky in action can be seen on Mike’s Google+ post.

DiGiovanni says that Google Glass has amazing sensor algorithms that judge the length and the magnitude of winks, this means that a typical wink won’t activate this app. He’s also discovered code that just might be able to differentiate double blinks and double winks as well as detect blinks. If you have an Explorer edition unit of Google Glass lying around, you can grab Winky’s source code from GitHub, the app has been released as pure Android source code and is meant to be complied and executed like an APK. Though its not exactly a chore to say “Ok Glass, take a photo” winking to tell Google Glass to take a picture makes it much more easier, if not entirely creepy.
