Windows Blue Confirmed For 2013 Release

Microsoft has finally confirmed that Windows 8’s long rumored update, which has been given the nickname Windows Blue by many a person (otherwise known as Windows 8.1 of course), will be rolling out later in the year. Microsoft’s Tami Reller claimed that this particular update will enable Windows to run on a myriad of devices, regardless of their display size, form factor and battery life. This bit of news would certainly shed some hope of seeing smaller sized 7” Windows 8-powered tablets hit the market, and Apple might wonder whether this will affect potential sales figures of their 7.9” iPad mini down the road, not to mention the rather large medium and low cost 7” Android-powered tablet market.

Whispers on the street have it that this particular update will enable smaller sized Windows-powered tablets, and it is nice to see such rumors finally being confirmed. Other beans spilled by Microsoft’s Tami Reller, quoted verbatim, reads as follows, “Windows Blue is a codename for an update that will be available later this year, building on the bold vision set forward with Windows 8 to deliver the next generation of tablets and PCs. It will deliver the latest new innovations across an increasingly broad array of form factors of all sizes, display, battery life and performance, while creating new opportunities for our ecosystem. It will provide more options for businesses, and give consumers more options for work and play. The Windows Blue update is also an opportunity for us to respond to the customer feedback that we’ve been closely listening to since the launch of Windows 8 and Windows RT.
