Western Digital has been manufacturing hard drives for as long as most people can remember, and today, they’re announcing a new line of portable hard drives, their My Passport Ultra.
Western Digital’s My Passport Ultra are available in 500GB, 1TB and 2TB storage capacities and are equipped with USB 3.0 connectivity, which allows for a super-fast connection between the portable hard drive and your computer. The My Passport Ultra have WD SmartWare Pro built into it which is Western Digital’s proprietary backup software, but it now also has Dropbox integration, hardware encryption and password protection to help safeguard the drive against unauthorized access. A protective pouch is also being made available to help shield the My Passport Ultra from the daily bumps and knocks an average person experiences when traveling.
The My Passport Ultra is now available in four different colors and comes a 3-year limited warranty, although only the 500GB and 1TB drives have been priced at $99.99 and $129.99, respectively.
Integrating Dropbox with their hard drives is certainly a bold move by Western Digital as it helps its users transfer data they want stored in the cloud to be a much easier process. Hopefully this will help more portable hard drive users consider storing a number of their files in the cloud just in case their hard drive isn’t accessible when needed.
