Only yesterday we reported on a confirmation from Verizon’s vice president of network support that Galaxy S4 will be compatible with its AWS network. The Advance Wireless Spectrum offers increased internet speeds over LTE. It was believed that currently only Galaxy S4 is compatible with Verizon’s AWS spectrum, but the carrier has reportedly confirmed seven such devices which support AWS. The Verizon Galaxy S4 was said to have components that make it support AWS, so it was believed to be the only compatible device for now.
The confirmed devices, apart from Galaxy S4, include BlackBerry Q10, Nokia Lumia 928, two Jetpack mobile hotspots, one USB antenna and two Samsung 10 inch tablets. Verizon hasn’t revealed which Samsung tablets are compatible with AWS, though it currently only offers Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 2. A Verizon representative cited as the source of this information has also said that when the network’s AWS band goes live later this year, all seven of these devices will be compatible with it. It is expected that upgrading to AWS would double internet speeds on Verizon’s LTE network, which is by far the biggest in all of U.S.A right now.
