According to a new report by The Washington Post, Chinese hackers were allegedly able to access designs of over two dozen US weapons systems. This has apparently been revealed in a confidential report that the Defense Science Board has put together for the Pentagon. These designs are said to be related to combat ships and aircraft such as the Black Hawk helicopter, F/A 18 fighter jet and the V-22 Osprey as well as U.S. missile defenses such as the Patriot missile system. Only recently it was rumored once again that Chinese cyberattacks against the U.S. had started, the Administration has already said that it is going to take a firm stand against Chinese cyberattacks.
It has not been confirmed whether these attacks were carried out against government networks or contractor networks, though its highly unlikely that such information will be made public. The report says that these alleged attacks will provide China an advantage to speed up the development of its own advanced weapons systems, as it saves years and billions of dollars that would otherwise have gone in to research and development. On the other hand China says that the report isn’t backed up by any credible evidence and that it denies having launched such an attack to access weapons related information.
