Last month we reported that popular blogging platform Tumblr was bringing in-stream advertisements to its mobile apps. It was almost an year back when the first sponsored post appeared on Tumblr Radar, mobile apps have started showing advertisements from Tumblr’s fashion, brand and entertainment partners since April. The execution is simple and doesn’t significantly affect user experience, ads randomly show up in a user’s mobile dashboard when they’re scrolling. The same in-stream ads have now been brought over to the main website, Tumblr announced today.
Sponsored posts will be marked with an animated $ sign in the top right hand corner. Tumblr says that so far they have received positive response on their advertising approach, from both their users and partners. The first ads on Tumblr website will start rolling out from next month. Initially seven partners will be brought on board, these include AT&T, Capital One, Denny’s, Ford Motor Company, Purina, Universal Pictures and Viacom. Like it is for mobile users, desktop users will only see up to four ad posts in their dashboard in one day. Tumblr was recently acquired by Yahoo for $1.1 billion.
