Microsoft Fixes IE8 Zero Day Exploit
In September last year, we asked the question whether the folks over at Microsoft were aware of the zero day exploit a few weeks before the emergency patch was issued. Well, that is different from the zero day exploit this time around, but if you so happen have the patience of Job in addition to the sheer fanboy spirit in you to continue using Microsoft’s Internet Explorer web browser until now, you will be more than pleased to hear that a different zero day exploit in Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) has been issued a permanent fix now.
Microsoft initially reported the “zero day” exploit in IE8 earlier in May, touting that this zero day exploit could be taken advantage of by hackers to launch a “remote code execution if users browse to a malicious website with an affected browser.” This resulted in some hackers directing attacks against the U.S. Department of Labor and U.S. Department of Energy prior to the patch’s release. Better late than never as usual in this case, and at least if you use IE8 from now on, you should have peace of mind that hackers will not break into your machine remotely and steal your collection of kitten photos.
