With Microsoft’s announcement of the Xbox One, we’re sure many are wondering the console will go on to be a huge success and achieve the same level of sales like its predecessor, the Xbox 360. The Xbox One was initially met with some criticism due to Microsoft being somewhat unclear on how internet connectivity would play a role, and how used games would function, but this did not stop Microsoft from being optimistic about its console. Speaking to the folks at OXM, Microsoft’s vice president of Interactive Entertainment Business, Yusuf Mehdi, seems to believe that over the next couple of years, he expects the Xbox 360 console to go on and sell around 25 million units, and at the same time break the 100 million unit installed base, which we believe might be possible with the inclusion of the Xbox One. Mehdi also goes on to state that combined with Sony’s PS4, it is possible that sales might even hit upwards of a billion units, suggesting that consoles are indeed here to stay, despite some opinions which believe that consoles could be dying out in favor of mobile gaming.
