When Facebook and HTC announced the HTC First, it was expected to become the first Android smartphone to have Facebook Home installed onto it, making its customers among the first to check out Facebook’s experimental application. Soon after its official launch, Facebook Home was slowly rolled out to other Android devices, putting the HTC First in the back of everyone’s mind, which resulted in AT&T offering the handset for only $.99 with a two-year contract. It looks like things haven’t been going well for the HTC First, and today, we’re hearing things have worsened as it’s being reported the device will soon be discontinued.
According to a trusted source of BGR, sales of the HTC First have been terrible ever since it was officially launched last month. Sales have been so bad, AT&T is reportedly discontinuing the smartphone on its service and will return all unsold inventory to HTC. The source at AT&T is reporting fewer than 15,000 units sold through last week. If these reports turn out to be true, HTC will have a ton of HTC First smartphones to go through once they’re all shipped back to the company.
