Flickr Users Get 1TB For Free + New Design [Marissa Mayer]

 

Marissa Mayer has announced some big news around Flickr today: starting right now, Flickr users get 1TB of storage for free, “enough for a lifetime of photos” she says (that’s 500,000 full-resolution photos according to Yahoo’s estimate). “Flickr users will never have to worry about running out of space”, Marissa Mayer adds.

But that’s not it: Flickr also gets an updated interface on the (desktop) web, but also on Android. The new design does a great job at putting user photos forward while the user interface and the Flickr brand take a step back. This was about time, and Yahoo did an incredible job with the design. This is not something that Yahoo was particularly known for, although the late Yahoo Livestand did  surprise us even more.

The Android version seems like a miniature version of the Desktop web-app, but the important detail is that photos remain in their full-size on Android as well. The reason: “the new Flickr for Android maintains your photos’ original quality, so every image you take, edit, share, or view on your phone or tablet looks spectacular” says Yahoo. This new version catches up with some features that were added earlier in the iPhone version (the full-size photos).
