Capcom Thinks Digital Only Release For Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies Is The Way To Go

Have you played any of the Phoenix Wright titles back on the Nintendo DS? Those were definitely some memorable games, especially when you had to crack your brain during the cross examination of a witness, requiring you to pull all the wit around you to find a loophole in a testimony. It proved to be a wildly popular title, and while sales of the game have been brisk, it seems that if you were to fast forward to this day and age, the physical retail environment is an altered one – making it a tough case for poor Wright to crack, leading to Capcom rolling out Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies in a digital only format when the game arrives later this year via the Nintendo eShop.

There is currently no physical retail release being planned for Ace Attorney 5 outside of Japan, which would be a first for the series. Those who are used to downloading games from the eShop would not see anything wrong with this, but there are definitely fans who prefer something physical to hold or touch in their hands. Capcom USA Senior VP Christian Svensson said, “Historically it’s been tough to attract long term retail support for Ace Attorney titles. With the release of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies we wanted as many people as possible to be able to enjoy the game for as long as possible. With that in mind we have opted for a digital only release via the Nintendo 3DS eShop. I understand that this decision may upset fans who wanted to have a physical version of the title to add to their collection but we believe this direction is the best to take.”
