ABI: Android Tablets To Surpass iPad Shipments Soon

Google_News_tabletsJust a couple of days ago, we brought you word that an analyst was bold enough to predict that tablets might overtake portable PC sales before 2013 is over, and that is the broader point of view, but when it comes to the tablet market alone, additional dissection is required to get a better grasp on the situation as to which mobile operating system has the upper hand. In this case, ABI Research claims that Apple’s iPad shipments would be overtaken by those of Android-powered tablets in due time.

According to ABI Research, the budget-friendly 7” tablet market that is dominated by Android at this moment has not been impacted negatively by the release of the 7.9” iPad mini from Apple, and with products like the Amazon Kindle Fire and the Google Nexus 7, these continue to help boost market demand for smaller and more affordable tablets. Jeff Orr, ABI’s senior practice director shared, “It’s inevitable that Android tablets will overtake iOS-powered slates, though we see no single vendor challenging Apple’s dominance anytime soon. With media tablets commercially available for more than four years, momentum is shifting toward value and affordability, putting tablets in more of the population’s reach.” Do you agree with Orr?
