At MWC 2013 Nokia Lumia 520 was announced. It is an “affordable” smartphone that runs on Windows Phone 8. With a 1Ghz dualcore Snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM, 4 inch display with 800×480 screen resolution, 5 megapixel rear camera with 720p video recording and 1,430 mAh battery, the Lumia 520 isn’t exactly a bad entry-level smartphone. In European markets the 520 retails for 199 Euros, and starting today, the unlocked version is available in the U.S. for $224.99. The smartphone is being offered by Expansys.

The Nokia Lumia 520 might not appeal to U.S. customers that much, considering that its next to impossible for it to connect to 3G. Only 900 and 2100 3G bands are supported by the device, which means that it won’t work on 3G networks of AT&T, Verizon or Sprint. One might be able to connect to T-Mobile 3G, but it won’t work everywhere. The only benefit one can derive from it is that the device can be purchased for a little over what one might pay for a high-end smartphone with a two-year contract. Since those are locked to a specific carrier, this allows users to connect to any GSM network they want.
