When Apple released its Game Center back when iOS 4 debuted, the company single-handedly provided what many iOS gamers wanted for years: a unified multiplayer service. It’s been two years since Game Center was released, and it looks like Android may be working on a similar service according to analyzed code from Google’s MyGlass application.
According to Android Police who first uncovered this bit of code within Google’s MyGlass app, a future Android update may include tools to give game developers the power to easily implement multiplayer features in their games including real-time and turn-based gameplay, in-game chat, achievements, leaderboards and the ability to invite other players into your game. We think it should go without saying such an update would become a much welcomed feature as it wouldn’t require app developers to create their own online network for their games, such as Gameloft’s Gameloft LIVE! service.
With the next version of Android expected to be announced next month at Google I/O, we certainly will be playing extra close attention to hear what Google has planned for the next Android update.
