StarCraft 2: Heart Of The Swarm Sells 1.1 Million Copies In 48 Hours
Blizzard’s StarCraft series of RTS games is no doubt pretty popular, especially in the competitive gaming scene where live television events have been broadcasted in countries such as South Korea where the video game is apparently taken very seriously. Like we said earlier, it is one heck of a popular game, but just how popular? Well according to the sales figures, it looks like Blizzard has managed to sell an impressive 1.1 million copies of StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm in 48 hours. To put things in perspective, Wing of Liberty managed to sell 1.5 million units in 48 hours, and while this might seem like a decline, those numbers could pick up later on.
For those unfamiliar with the StarCraft franchise, Heart of the Swarm is the successor to Wings of Liberty which was released a couple of years ago. The game, unlike the first StarCraft which saw all campaigns playable, is split up into 3 – one game for every race. Personally it feels like a way for Blizzard to make more money, but on the other hand having played through Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm, it really does feel more like a complete game rather than an expensive expansion set. So, were you one of the 1.1 million that bought Heart of the Swarm? Or did you, like many professional gamers, retire after Wings of Liberty?
