Motorola China Sheds Another 800 Jobs
Right now, if you are working under the umbrella of Motorola Mobility, chances are pretty high that it is not all a bed of roses and sunshine. In fact, you would most probably wonder whether you are going to come under the axe soon, as Google reportedly announced that they will cut 1,200 jobs over at Motorola Mobility last week, which will add to the total of 4,000 employees that they have fired since August last year. The latest round of layoffs will be farther away from home, but it will still affect Motorola on the whole as another 800 staff in China will get the boot, leaving a total of approximately 200 left to handle sales and marketing in that part of the world.
It seems that this move was done as Google intends to concentrate all of Motorola’s research and development work in the US. This does make financial and logical sense, considering how smartphone sales from Motorola in China are extremely dismal. Hopefully the folks given the boot in China will be able to find new jobs, and soon!
