Apple Overtakes Samsung As Number One Mobile Phone Vendor In US (Q4/2012)

When it comes to being the number one mobile phone vendor in the US, Samsung has been holding that position for the past five years, possibly because of their wide range of offerings that include feature phones to high-end Android smartphones like the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2. However it looks like Samsung’s run might have come to an end because according to a report by research firm, Strategy Analytics, it seems that Apple has finally overtaken Samsung as the number one mobile phone vendor in the US.

The report showed that Apple has managed to sell 17.7 million iPhones in Q4 2012, versus Samsung’s 16.8 million with LG trailing behind in third place at 4.7 million. Like we said earlier, these are not just smartphone figures, but rather mobile phones of all kinds which includes budget feature phones to the high-end smartphones, so it is particularly interesting as Apple only has the iPhone while both Samsung and LG have numerous other offerings. It is unclear if Apple will be able to hold onto the number spot for a sustained period of time, especially with Samsung poised to launch the Galaxy S4 later this year, but either way it’s still a victory for now.
