The Sony Xperia Tablet Z has been a recently rumored device and according to rumors last week, it was said that NTT DoCoMo could be announcing the tablet on the 22nd of January. Well it looks like the dates were pretty close as Sony themselves have taken the wraps off the tablet and as expected, some of the specs are in line with the rumors. For starters you can look forward to seeing the Android 4.1 tablet sport a 10.1” display with a resolution of 1920×1200, and under the hood Sony will be packing a quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz. The Xperia Tablet Z will also come with an 8MP rear-facing camera which according to Sony, is the first backside-illuminated camera that they have put into a tablet which should help with low-light situations.
One of the other features Sony is hawking is the fact that the Xperia Tablet Z measures an impressive 6.9mm thin which makes it thinner than Apple’s iPad mini! Similar to the Xperia Z, it looks like Sony will also be introducing protective features such as waterproof and dustproof to the tablet, along with a sound system the company calls “S-Force Front Surround 3D” which is said to improve the sound coming from the tablet, although this is one feature we’ll have to try for ourselves in order to believe. The Xperia Tablet Z will also pack LTE and NFC connectivity and is said to be available in Japan this Spring. No word on when it will be making its way stateside or how much it will cost, but any takers? [Press release]
