Tim Cook Explains How Apple Works Now

Apple CEO Tim Cook recently sat down with Bloomberg Businessweek to talk about the company he inherited from legendary Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. Cook, who previously worked as head of operations, recalls what Jobs told him. “I never want you to ask what I would have done. Just do what’s right,” Jobs said to Cook. It has been more than a year since Jobs handed over the baton of leadership to Cook. And so far, Apple has managed to keep the company going by launching the iPhone 5, the iPad mini, the iPad 4, the new iMac, and the new iPod touch and iPod nano. 

Cook also talked about how Apple works now, saying that the company is now becoming more transparent about how it deals with suppliers and that it is now becoming more charitable. Just recently, Apple partnered with (RED) to help fund AIDS research. The company also donated $2.5 million to the victims of Hurricane Sandy last month.

“I have always believed this. Always. I think that Apple and Apple’s employees have done enormous good and can do even more. One of the things that we have done is match our employees’ charitable contributions, where they select who they want to give to,” Cook said. “So it’s not some corporate committee deciding, but it’s our 80,000 employees deciding what they want to do, and then we match it.”
