If you’re over 18 years old and you have turned off the “SafeSearch” option in Google Images, then you know what kind of unexpected greatness you can stumble onto when you’re looking for an image of something as innocent as a book bag. But now that Google has reportedly changed its search algorithm, it looks like it may be hard for us to stumble onto some great, unexpected images.
A Google representative spoke with CNet about the change and explains what we should expect from the new Google Images search algorithm:
“We are not censoring any adult content, and want to show users exactly what they are looking for — but we aim not to show sexually-explicit results unless a user is specifically searching for them. If you’re looking for adult content, you can find it without having to change the default setting — you just may need to be more explicit in your query if your search terms are potentially ambiguous.”
Those of you who rely on Google Image to get your fix of adult content, you might want to rethink your strategy as there are a rather large amount of sites you can search that will deliver what you want. If you still prefer Google Images, then just be sure to make your searches more specific rather than looking for a generic term like “boobs.”
