Samsung announces SCH-W2013 quad-core Android flip phone for China

While flip phones back in the day might have been popular and somewhat cool, with full touchscreen smartphones being rather commonplace these days, do flip phones still have a market? Granted emerging markets might still demand feature phones, although a flip phone with a quad-core processor and powered by Android might seem a little out of place. Yup, it looks like Samsung has taken the wraps off a quad-core powered Android flip phone although it appears to be destined for the Chinese market. As you can see in the poster above, it looks like Samsung spared no expense and even got action movie star, Jackie Chan, to endorse it!

With that being said, we guess it’s not surprising to learn that Samsung will be asking for anywhere between 18,000 Yuan to 20,000 Yuan for it, which basically translates to anywhere between $2,900 to $3,210 which will buy you many unlocked and off-contract Android devices or even iOS if you so desire. So what exactly are we looking at here for a phone to cost so much? Unfortunately apart from its somewhat novelty flip status, the Samsung SCH-W2013 will sport a quad-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded via microSD, dual-SIM support, dual AMOLED touchscreen displays (one inside and one outside), an 8MP rear-facing camera, a 1.9MP front-facing camera and it will come with Android 4.0 ICS preinstalled. Really does not seem worth the money, does it?
