Great people will always be remembered. That is why Pixar is naming its main studio after the legendary Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. As you know, Jobs was instrumental in the growth of the computer animation studio. “He financed the work at the studio long before it became profitable, pouring millions of his own money into keeping Pixar afloat because he believed in the work of the employees,” writes the Pixar Times.
Pixar even made a tribute to Jobs in the end credits of its latest animated film, Brave. But apparently that wasn’t enough. A Pixar employee posted an image on Twitter saying that Pixar’s building has just been named “The Steve Jobs Building.” A closer look at the picture suggests that it’s actually the same building that Steve Jobs designed himself with the help of Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, the famous designer of Bill Gates’ Washington residential compound and the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue.
In Walter Isaacson’s epic Steve Jobs biography, the author writes that the Pixar headquarters was to be a place that “promoted encounters and unplanned collaborations.” “He didn’t want a standard office-park building—one with corrugated-metal siding or ribbon windows. The building had to look good 100 years from now. That was his main criterion,” said Tom Carlisle, Facilities Director at Pixar.
