LG Optimus G pricing announced by Sprint

Sprint, which just signed a huge deal with Japanese carrier Softbank, has just announced the pricing for its version of the LG Optimus G, the first handset to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 pro. With a 2-year contract, the Sprint LG Optimus G will retail for $199.99, which is in line with most high-end smartphone launches, with a few exceptions.

However, customers will still have to wait until November 1 before being able to place orders. The Optimus G was announced last month in Korea and should appear on Sprint and AT&T networks.

The same handset has been rumored to be the next Google Nexus “pure Android device”, although other handsets, notably from Sony are also the object of such rumors. It is obvious that Google may want to “rotate” which handset maker would build the next Nexus — or may be Google could allow/encourage each handset maker to have a “pure” Android experience (no handset maker and carrier customization) in the name of faster updates.

The update speed is one of the most frustrating user experience points of the leading mobile OS. Doing something to address this would be most welcome. What do you think?
