Acer to delay Windows RT tablets following Surface announcement

Acer has reportedly postponed the launching of its flagship Windows RT tablets in order to measure the success rate of Microsoft’s very own Surface tablet. In an interview with Reuters on Tuesday this week, Acer President Jim Wong allegedly said that the company is now more cautious after Microsoft highlighted its Surface tablet last week. “Originally we had a very aggressive plan to come out very early next year but because of Surface, our R&D development doesn’t stop, but we are much more cautious,” said Wong.

Apparently the Taiwanese consumer electronics giant initially planned on launching its tablets early next year. Wong also said that Acer will have to adopt a “wait and see” approach for now until Q2 next year. “We are watching how Surface is doing, how is RT accepted by customers, and how Microsoft is aggressive on RT and on Surface. We don’t know, but we want to see,” he adds. It’s important to note that Acer is one of the first to announce its Windows RT tablet lineup for the year. The company was also among the first to criticize Microsoft for moving into the hardware business.
