HTC Windows Phone 8 X officially announced

HTC has revealed two new phones at its New York City event. Among them is the HTC Windows Phone 8 X, which is HTC’s flagship Windows phone.

The HTC Windows Phone 8 X comes with many of the same guts that delighted us when we reviewed the One X, including the same beautiful 720p super LCD 2 display, which produces rich colors and deep blacks. It looks great when displaying Windows 8 live tiles.

It’s also packing a Qualcomm S4 dual-core processor running at 1.5 Ghz, and comes with 16 GB of storage, but there’s no option to extend it through a microSD card. That’s one key differentiator between the high-end Windows 8 X and the mid-market Windows 8S. It’s got an 8-megapixel rear camera (~~quite possibly~~ the same camera that was in the One X)that features an 28mm lens that can go as wide as f/2.0 aperture.

The biggest difference between the 8X and the One X is in the industrial design: the 8X opts for a gently sloped round back design, which is reminiscent of Nokia’s Lumia line.

The device runs Microsoft’s upcoming Windows Phone 8, and features 4G LTE on AT&T and Verizon in the United States. The device is due to become available by November. Interestingly, pricing information wasn’t discussed at the event, but this phone will most likely retail at the now standard price of $200 with a contract.
