It has been frequently rumored in the past that Apple has been considering the use of carbon fiber in its products. Such rumors were on a temporary halt, thanks to the iPhone 5 launch, but it seems that they are back.
The Cupertino-based company is yet again rumored to be looking into the option of carbon fiber use for its future products. According to reports, sources close to Apple have revealed that the company has ordered samples of carbon fiber products.
It is also being cited that Apple has filed a number of patents which speak of carbon fiber, something which may further reaffirm the speculation that Apple has hopes with the material. The reason why carbon fiber seems to be the obviously logical choice for Apple’s future products is that carbon fiber can ensure lighter and more durable products.
For instance, if Apple eventually decides to replace the aluminum in its notebooks and tablets with carbon fiber, this can help the company shed some weight from them. A number of vendors have already been able to do so by using the material. Gigabyte announced X11 notebook as the world’s lightest notebook, weighing a mere 2.1 pounds, thanks to the carbon fiber in its body.
