American Airlines will equip flight attendants with Galaxy Note

Airlines have been using tablets and smartphones as part of the official in-flight gear for some time now. For instance, we reported earlier that American Airlines planned on providing Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 for in-flight entertainment as far back as 2011.

And now, the airline has decided to equip its flight attendants with Galaxy Note. The press release by the company shows off a 5.3-inch version which probably means that the employees wouldn’t be lucky enough to lay their hands on the upcoming Galaxy Note II, rather than first-generation device.

The device will be handed out to all 17,000 in-flight attendants. The crew will be using these devices to keep track of premium passenger meal services, real-time weather updates as well as for a whole host of other functions such as seat assignments and loyal program status. They will be able to tool them while connected to the in-flight WiFi.

American Airlines also plans on loading the flight attendant manuals on to the devices eventually, a possibility which is pending approval by FAA as of yet. The company has been testing out multiple devices ever since Spring this year and has finally settled for the Galaxy Note as its final choice.

According to the airline’s Chief Information Officer, Maya Leibman, “We’re pioneering important new technologies as part of our continued effort to build a new American and return to industry leadership. As we continue to evolve into a more modern airline and explore ways to enhance the travel experience, we are giving our people the tools they need to offer our loyal customers ease of travel both in the air and on the ground.”
