Bicycles are a popular mode of transportation for smaller distances. Especially, when it comes to kids, most of us want them to try their hands on bicycles for a few years before they turn their attention to more ‘advanced’ vehicles.
Bicycles are already among the cheapest vehicles on the market. However, what if you were told that you could now lay your hands on a cool bicycle for a mere $9? Well, you wouldn’t be able to lay your hands on it exactly for that price, given that it is the basic production cost of a new recycled cardboard bicycle created by Izhar Gafni.
The sound of the ‘cardboard’ in its name may give the impression that the bicycle is not fit for actual biking. Well, that’s the surprising part: this bicycle can bear weights up to 300-lbs, thus letting you easily pedal around on it without the fear of cracking it up.
The production cost of this bicycle has been reported to be a mere $9 t0 $15. According to Gafni, bicycle vendors can customize this basic model, add on their own features and then sell it for a greater price, thus turning a profit.
While that remains the commercial aspect, the humanitarian angle is that by spending a very tiny sum, you could gift a dozen of these bicycles to kids in third world countries.
