Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Preview

As expected, Samsung has launched the Galaxy Note 2, which is even larger than the original Galaxy Note. Many didn’t think that this was possible to make it larger, but Samsung did, and they have pushed the concept of the Galaxy Note phone to the next level.

First, the design is beautiful, and although it comes in two colors, I have to admit that I like the pearl white version better. In many ways, it looks like the first Galaxy Note, but with some traits of the Galaxy S3 as well. The combination of both designs yields a winner here. Beyond the appearance, there are three things that have been improved by quite a bit.

First, the software has evolved drastically, thanks to the work done on the Galaxy Note 10.1 which recently came out in the U.S. The Smartphone version features all the goodies that the tablet has, and soon the notes will be synchronized across many Samsung computing devices – including PCs. This is looking better and more useful by the day.

Secondly, the battery capacity has increased by nearly 24% (from 2500 to 3100 mAh). This is a big deal because although we found that the original Samsung Galaxy Note phone had a good battery life (especially in standby mode), there is never enough of it, especially if you take into account the addition of 4G LTE and a quad-core processor. We can’t wait to test the battery life in real-world conditions.

Finally, the overall performance and user responsiveness are excellent. This is really the only thing that was bugging me with the original Note. Fortunately, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 fixes all this. This is a huge deal because a user should never have to wait for a productivity device to respond. Right now, the Note 2 is just about as responsive as the Galaxy S3, which is excellent.

When we do our full review of the device, we will take a deeper look into the software and its real-world usage, but at the moment, our first impression is that the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is an excellent device, that will further popularize this category that Samsung introduced. It’s impressive.
