Apple wants to ban 8 Samsung phones

Apple is certainly quick in pressing their advantage over the recent court ruling of its patent lawsuit against Samsung, and are now looking to ban up to 8 smartphones from Samsung Electronics, and what better way to further gain a foothold in the market than to ensure one of your main rival’s phones are taken off the market as soon as possible? Eight of the smartphones identified are of the older generation, where the still hot selling Samsung Galaxy S2 and Droid Charge are still part of the equation.

Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S3 smartphone was not part of the trial, although the jury did concur that Apple’s patents on features and design elements were infringed, which might eventually see the ban hammer fall on the Galaxy S3 as well. Knowing Apple and Steve Jobs having said that he wanted to go “thermonuclear” against Android, I would venture out on a limb and say that the Galaxy S3’s days might just be numbered Stateside.

September 20 is the date for the injunction hearing, and assuming U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh happens to dish out a decision favorable towards Apple, then Samsung’s next course of legal action will most likely to place them on hold while filing an appeal.
