Motorola PHOTON Q 4G LTE will have an unlockable bootloader

After so many years, it looks like Motorola has gotten a clue about what the Android community wants: unlockable bootloaders. While this news probably won’t affect most of you, the rest of who care about loading custom ROMs onto your Android phones will be jumping with joy. According to an announcement on the official Motorola blog, starting with the recently announced Motorola PHOTON Q 4G LTE, users will be able to unlock the bootloader. Apparently Motorola has managed to devise a solution that keeps in mind the security that carriers want and the customizability that power users want.

Motorola also mentioned that “other products” will have the option to unlock the bootloader in the future, but it wasn’t specified if this included their older Android phones (fingers crossed). At the moment there aren’t any specific details about the unlocking process, but we’re promised more details in the future. I wonder if Google’s acquisition of Motorola Mobility had anything to do with this. Either way, who’s excited about this announcement?
