In-cell displays for the next-gen iPhone rumored to be in mass production
It has been rumored in the past that the next-gen iPhone could very well feature an in-cell display technology, making the iPhone thinner and possibly lighter at the same time, and improving image quality as well. While that remains to be seen, a report at the Wall Street Journal has revealed that it may very well be the case, and that mass production of said displays have already begun. They have named manufacturers such as Sharp, Japan Display Inc. (a joint effort of Sony, Hitachi and Toshiba) and LG Display as being the ones responsible for the in-cell display technology used for the next-gen iPhone. This seems to corroborate earlier rumors of Sony’s involvement, but will this report pan out? After all it’s not surprising to see iPhone rumors running rampant around this time of the year, but until Apple launches the phone in an official capacity, we suggest taking this with a grain of salt for now.
