Apple pooh poohs at EPEAT certification withdrawal

I guess you can say that part of Apple’s DNA as a company would be being different from the rest, doing things their own way, which some might call arrogant. Their latest move might just smack of that, depending on which side of the fence you lean on, where we reported that Apple had removed the EPEAT green certification from its range of products, simply because that they as a company already take a “comprehensive approach” to churning out environmentally-responsible products.

According to Kristin Huguet, a spokesperson for Apple, “Apple takes a comprehensive approach to measuring our environmental impact and all of our products meet the strictest energy efficiency standards backed by the US government, Energy Star 5.2. We also lead the industry by reporting each product’s greenhouse gas emissions on our website, and Apple products are superior in other important environmental areas not measured by EPEAT, such as removal of toxic materials.”

What do you think of this particular move? Will it affect Apple’s sales in any way? I do not think so, but perhaps their rapport with government agencies might suffer.
