Lowe’s launches Iris

Remember AlertMe, the folks behind the Remote Heating Control? Well it looks like they’ve moved on from gas monitors to home security. Using the AlertMe connected home platform, Iris, a Lowe’s service, will let home owners monitor and control their home from anywhere in the world – as long as they have a smartphone, tablet or computer with a free basic level of service and an internet connection. While remote home control isn’t anything new, what makes Iris stand out from the crowd is its price point.

Iris will be available in three different starter kits: Safe & Secure which makes use of motion and contact sensors to alert homeowners when they’re away from home, Comfort & Control which combines the convenience of home automation with the ability to save on energy costs in the home, and the Iris Smart Kit which combines the above two kits. The Safe & Secure and Comfort & Control kit will be available for $179 each while the Smart Kit will retail for $299.

In addition to the basic services provided by the kits, users can sign up for a Premium service at $9.99/month for additional messaging and Iris Magic – programmable mode modes and customized rules for home management. Sounds like a great way to keep your home safe while helping you cut costs and save the environment as well. Iris will be available by the end of August on Lowes.com and in 500 stores.
