According to Hargreaves, the inspiration for this project came after he stumbled upon a video of Japanese youths attempting to deep fry a PSP unsuccessfully. Speaking to the Huffington Post, he was quoted as saying, “I like to play with food and the juxtaposition of different worlds […] Also I see similarities between tech culture and fast food. Quickly devoured and then discarded.” When asked why he did not attempt to do deep fry the actual gadgets, Hargreaves replied by saying “I didnt have deep enough pockets to get the real thing […] nor did i care to find out what happens when a lithium battery is dunked in 400°F oil!”
