Looking rather alien-like in design, the InaTrap works via a photocatalyst built into the top dome of the device where it produces low levels of carbon dioxide meant to simulate human breath, along with a low power CCFL UV light that flashes intermittently. Once the insects have been lured to the device, a noiseless fan pushes them into the base of the device which can be removed for cleaning purposes. Alternatively other insect attractors such as wine or steric acid can be placed in the holding chamber to help enhance its “attractiveness”.
The InaTrap comes with a built-in rechargeable battery that promises 9-10 hours of use, along with an AC adapter if you’re planning to just leave it in one spot all the time. Now if you thought that this was a concept, it’s not and it’s actually available for purchase via Amazon. The blue version is retailing at $84.99 while the purple version is priced at $89.50. Who knew insect traps could look so stylish! In the meantime you can check out the video below to see the design process of the InaTrap.
