Sharp debuts Intel Medfield powered education tablet, will run on either Android or Windows 8

You know how Intel is currently pushing their Medfield chipset onto manufacturers in hopes that they will use them over the ARM design? At the moment Intel’s Medfield platform has made its way into several Android powered handsets, but what about tablets? That future might not be too far off as Sharp has debuted an education tablet prototype that runs on Intel’s Medfield platform which will apparently have no problems running either Android or Windows 8.

The tablet pictured above is a prototype and has been designed for the education market in mind. Supposedly Sharp is getting ready for its production although there’s no word on when it will be made available. As far as its specs are concerned, the tablet will sport a 10.1” display with a resolution of 1280×800. It will come with a 32GB SSD, an 8MP rear-facing camera, a front-facing VGA camera and according to Sharp, the tablet will feature 12 hours of battery life.

Other features includes a bio metric sensor, wireless charging, put input and a RFID based alarm system. Like we said earlier, the tablet will come in two flavors – Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and Windows 8, although given that Windows 8 has yet to be released, we guess we shouldn’t expect this particular tablet to hit the shelves any time soon. No word on pricing but given its 32GB SSD, safe to say it will not come cheap.
