Next generation MacBook Pro announced

So, the rumors have proved true – there is such a thing as the next generation MacBook Pro, which will come with a Retina Display. Just what kind of new computing era will be ushered in with a Retina Display? Well, Apple claims that the next generation MacBook Pro is the most beautiful computer that they have ever made, and I would say that most folks would concur that no notebook is as good looking as this. It is not as thin as a MacBook Air, but will most probably be able to give it a run for its money by being 25% thinner than the current MacBook Pro.

As for the “main event”, the Retina Display on this MacBook Pro also makes it the world’s highest resolution notebook display, where 15.4″ of viewing goodness gives you a pixel density of 2880 x 1800, which is four times the number of pixels compared to the previous generation of MacBook Pro displays. When you boil it down to ppi numbers, we are looking at 220 ppi – which translates to 5,184,000 pixels.

Having said that, the next generation MacBook Pro will also come with higher contrast ratios, superior viewing angles, reduced glare, and when your eyes go over text on this display, it has been described as “experiencing magazine-like quality.” Apps are now being updated in order to accommodate this next generation MacBook Pro – does this mean we will need to pay more for the Retina Display version?

As for the other hardware specifications, we do know that MagSafe has been sent to the fat house and is thinner than before. There is also a glass trackpad, the backlit keyboard, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, FaceTime HD, dual microphones, and stereo speakers.

Just how much will the next generation MacBook Pro cost? We are looking at an entry price point of $2,199, where you get a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of flash storage. Of course, throwing in more moolah will up the ante in terms of hardware configuration. The good news is, the next generation MacBook Pro will ship from today onwards, so pony up that cash.
