LG Display is behind MacBook Pro Retina wonder-display
Apple is a company that hedges their bets, and do not put all of their eggs in a single basket, which is definitely a wise thing to do, since one should spread the manufacturing “risk” (and squeeze costs with some vendor-balancing) all around just in case something goes awry. Well, we do know that LG Display is one of the suppliers for the new MacBook Pro that has a Retina Display. Disclosed by iFixit over their Twitter account, it should put to bed rumors surrounding the possibility of Apple using Sharp’s IGZO technology. There has been plenty of speculation surrounding the status of Samsung who is now one of Apple’s bitter rival in the consumer electronics market, and a shift in the balance of manufacturing power to one of Samsung’s local rivals was an expected move.
LG Display proved to be one of the major suppliers of LCD displays to Apple in recent times (especially with their IPS panels), where just three years ago, both companies arrived at a $500 million deal in order to supply flat-panel displays all the way to year 2013.
